After completing the Programme for European Studies under the cooperation of the Warsaw School of Economics and Sciences Po, for 9 years I managed projects in marketing and advertising agencies. I coordinated campaigns for clients such as Danone, Orange, or Nestle. For three years, I also worked as a project coordinator within an internal creative studio at the American financial corporation, Franklin Templeton Investments.

Five years ago, I decided to try something new, both in terms of the country of residence and industry. I found a job as an IT Project Manager in a 50-person team in Brussels at Stylelabs/Sitecore. My main responsibility was project management for product implementations - a platform for managing marketing and product resources. Again, I had the opportunity to work with large corporations, e.g. Victoria's Secret or Procter&Gamble.

I currently work at the American-Belgian company, OneSpan. It offers different anti-fraud solutions, mainly for banks and insurance companies. As part of a flexible position, depending on the day, I prepare projects in Content Development, Training, and Business Solutions departments. It can be an internal training platform, a webinar for clients, or, for example, a brochure discussing the challenges of modern banking.

I really appreciate the fact that for many years I have had the opportunity to work with people representing many nationalities, cultures, and views. Being in touch with colleagues from different countries and time zones broadens horizons, sensitizes to cultural differences and teaches tolerance. Such cooperation can sometimes be a challenge when, for example, you have to submit a project on Friday, but clients from Dubai do not work on Fridays. At the same time, it teaches us great humility, patience, and flexibility in planning. One of the many positive aspects is that it is very nice to talk to a colleague or client, who lives in an exotic country, about the customs prevailing there.

Living and working outside of Poland has taught me a lot. Despite the fact that both Poland and Belgium are in one cultural circle, there are many differences, ranging from the manner of dealing with official matters, renting an apartment, the social structure, to the culture in the workplace. Emigration can be overwhelming, but it certainly is an extremely interesting and developing experience.

My biggest success

What I consider my success is the fact that I have started almost from scratch, changed the industry I worked in and learned new things, already a couple of times. One would assume that this is not helpful in building a career, but in my opinion "career" means something different for everyone. For me - it is the fact that although I have not become a director, I never got bored and never got the impression that I had been stuck in one place for years. Should I ever have such a need, I will not be afraid to start from scratch in a new industry.

My advice for SGH students
Do not be afraid to take on new challenges, including changing the industry even to one that is not fully compatible with your education. If you have the opportunity, spend some time working abroad - even when you want to build your career in Poland.
