I have been passionate about mathematics since childhood. I was also interested in history and social sciences and thus I wanted to find a general science field of study that would show different applications of mathematics, and at the same time combined other areas of my interests.
During my studies I had an internship at the Decision Support Analysis Department. Due to the people working there, in particular thanks to prof. Tomasz Szapiro and also the support of prof. Honorata Sosnowska, I decided to continue my doctoral studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
My doctoral dissertation concerned monetary and fiscal policy in the European Monetary Union accession countries. You can find it on the website: https://www.tesisenred.net/handle/10803/42296.
In order to get a job, PhD candidates need to be convincing (conduct convincing research) to other universities or institutions. Therefore, most of them participate in the so-called economics job market (an international market, https://econjobmarket.org/) already in the last year of their doctoral studies. I accepted the best offer for me at the time - a position of an economist at the Bank of England. After 4 years, however, the time came for further changes, and, as a result of new searches on the job market, I accepted a job offer from the Federal Reserve Board in Washington (together with my husband, who is also an economist).
The aspect of my work that I value the most is the emphasis the Federal Reserve Board puts on development and the possibility of conducting scientific research that can be useful in shaping monetary policy.
I devote most of my free time to my two children. I am also passionate about running, I take part in amateur races - e.g. Cherry Blossom 10 miler, which is organized once a year in Washington.
